Astronomy Talk and Night Sky Tour with an astronomer who works on the Hubble Space Telescope!
Friday, 6/20
8 pm – 10 pm
Hyla Middle School
7861 Bucklin Hill Road, Bainbridge Island, WA
We are thrilled to host Henny Lamers, internationally acclaimed astronomer who works on the Hubble Space Telescope, who will talk about the life of stars – where do they come from? How long do they live? How is a star born? What will happen when the sun’s energy runs out? Prof. Lamers will answer these questions during a dynamic presentation in the library, and then we’ll head outside for a tour of the night sky.
Prof. Lamers is an enthusiastic speaker and award winning educator and astronomer. He lectures around the world and even has an asteroid named after him!
Light refreshments will be served. Please bring your friends!

About our guest speaker:
Dr. Henny J.G.L.M Lamers is professor emeritus of “Astrophysics and Space Research” at Utrecht University and the University of Amsterdam. His field of research covers a wide range of astronomy: stellar evolution, stellar winds, star clusters, and the dynamics of star clusters and galaxy interactions. Over the last decade he has studied the formation and destruction of star clusters in interacting galaxies with the Hubble Space Telescope. He is widely published in international scientific journals, and has served on advisory committees of NASA, ESA and the EU. He was also a memeber of the selection committee for the Hubble Space Telescope (NASA) and for several space missions (ESA). In 2014, he was elected as “honorary member” of the American Astronomical Society in recognition for his contributions to science. The International Astronomical Union named an asteroid after him: asteroid 12635 is now called Henny Lamers.
