Drama – Summer viewing suggestions

A Midsummer Night's Dream, 2014

Hello sixth grade students and families.

Here are the suggestions I mentioned in the drama letter you received. Whether you decide to see a live performance or view a filmed version of a play, please enjoy the experience. Remember to write a short refection about the play you see and bring it with you on the first day of school. If you have any questions please email me (joycem@hylamiddleschool.org) or call (206)780-9235.

Filmed plays:
There are many to chose from on services like Amazon and Netflix.
I particularly enjoy the productions offered by Digital Theatre. Through the Digital Theatre service you can watch excellent productions on a variety of devices (iPad, computer, iPhone, Ipad touch, Samsung Smart TV). My favorite is the Royal Shakespeare production of As You Like It  Digital Theatre also offers many productions filmed at The Globe in London. There are also some fun musicals. However, their content is not solely for young people, so check out the listings or call me if you are not sure about a particular production.http://www.digitaltheatre.com/browse/all
Another option:
I have DVDs in the Hyla office that you are welcome to borrow. Just sign them out, and bring them back within a few days so others can enjoy as well.
As You Like It on DVD:
1. Directed by Kenneth Branagh
2. London Globe production, directed by Thea Sharrock
3. Stratford, Canada production, directed by John Hirsch
A Midsummer Night’s Dream on DVD:
1. BBC & Time-Life Films, with a young Helen Mirren
Take care, have fun, and enjoy this beautiful summer.
