A Legacy of Giving
For over 30 years, Hyla parents have worked in partnership with our school to nourish our community, support our program, and model service and stewardship for our students. We hear over and over again that parent friendships and lasting connections are made during volunteer activities at Hyla.
Our Values in Action
Participation is essential to everything at Hyla, from fundraising to volunteering. The motto of Hyla's volunteer spirit is "many hands make light work" because together we can accomplish so much more than any of us can do alone. In addition to participation, the work of parent volunteers accomplishes some of our deepest values as a school community:
- Service: All parent volunteering is a form of activism and service.
- Impact: Parent volunteerism aligns with our mission and values, and is also in service to our program and strategic goals. Every volunteer hour is meaningful and makes a purposeful difference. Getting involved is a great way to learn more about our school, our work with students, and our strategic initiatives. Many of our trustees began their service at Hyla as grade reps and auction volunteers.
- Community Building: Parent volunteers meet other parents across all grades, and also get to know students who are in school with their own kids.
- Individuality: Parents support Hyla through a wide variety of talents, expertise, and passions. We welcome and appreciate all the ways that Hyla parents enrich our school community, like cooking, professional expertise, setting up school events, and building play sets.
Ways to Get Involved
As children grow up and reach the middle and high school years, they are ready for more and more independence. To support them in that journey, our parent volunteer opportunities tend to be outside the classroom. Regardless of family schedules or circumstances, there is something for everyone, from one-time tasks, to year-long commitments, to projects that can be done at home, to group collaborations at school.
Every year, we invite Hyla parents to support us in the following ways:
- Community Building
- Annual Auction
- Drama production support
- Meals for teachers during conferences
- Event support
- Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week
