Thank you for coming! About the Webinar: In this webinar you will see speakers, but no one will see you. So it doesn’t matter how you or your house look! This format allows you to jump in however it works for you, and multi-task as needed. Right now, we are all learning new laws of family physics: Julie Metzger and Dr. Christy Brady Smith will share challenges, reminders, tips, and encouragement to consider as we navigate this moment together. About Hyla’s Speaker Series: About the Speakers: We hope you will tune in on Wednesday to listen to, learn from, and engage with Julie Metzger and Dr. Christy Brady Smith!
Each year Hyla Middle School hosts nationally recognized speakers as part of our parent education series, called Hyla Parent University. As a learning community, we provide this service for parents to support their work during the critical middle school years. We are proud to open these events to the surrounding community and we invite all parents to come learn with us, at no cost.
For over 30 years Julie Metzger has worked with families of teens and pre-teens on topics of puberty, sexuality and decision-making. She has written and presented health curricula on decision-making and friendships for elementary, middle and high school students throughout the Pacific NW and Bay Area, and has shared her program Heart to Heart to tens of thousands of families. Julie is a recognized speaker and expert on a wide range of parenting issues, and has worked in many capacities as a nurse consultant at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She is also a parent of 3 young adults.
Dr. Christy Brady Smith is a developmental psychologist, founder of Nature Nurture Knowledge, and mom of three lively kids. She earned her PhD in Developmental Psychology from Columbia University, where she worked on numerous studies related to parenting, family relationships, and child development. She helps families and schools nurture children’s development by sharing research-based knowledge about parenting in a clear and concise way.
